Security
The security courses are accredited by Edexcel and they are recognised by the security industry authority as qualifications. The course content and duration is listed below. It is a two part course and there are exemptions, these are listed on the Security Industry Authority [SIA] site.
To achieve a licence an security officer must attend and pass this qualification, or hold an equivalent. The best source to stay up to date with these exemptions is to check on the SIA website. The course can be delivered over a 4 day period and participants have to pass 2 exams. This can be adapted according to the needs of the client, provided the content is delivered over a four day period. Part 1 (22.5 hours) • Introduction to the Security Industry and Roles and Responsibilities of Security Officers • Patrolling • Access Control • Searching • Security and Emergency Systems • Fire Safety • Health and Safety at Work • The Law • Emergencies • Customer Care and Social Skills • Communications and Reporting • Equality and Diversity Part 2 - Communication Skills and Conflict Management • Avoiding Conflict and Reducing Risk • Defusing Conflict • Resolving Conflict • Post-incident Considerations and Learning from Conflict. To demonstrate Continual Professional Development as a security officer a candidate would be encouraged to use an NVQ to further their careers. There are NVQ’s in security at levels 2 and 3.
